SELINSGROVE, Pa.—Senior pitcher Rocky Sawyer (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) tossed a one-hitter to lead The University of Scranton baseball team to a 3-0 victory over Susquehanna University Monday afternoon at Bollinger Field.

Sawyer struck out eight as the Royals completed a three-game sweep of the Crusaders to improve to 12-9 overall and 5-4 in the Landmark Conference.  The loss drops Susquehanna to 12-15 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

The Royals took the lead for good in the third inning when sophomore Eric Pizzico (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) drew a walk with the bases loaded and added another run in the fourth on an RBI single by junior Tim LeCompte (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic).  In the sixth, junior Michael Amaturo (Rye, NY/Rye) doubled and came around to score on a single by freshman Michael Umerich (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights), who had three of the Royals' six hits.

Sawyer dominated from start to finish, allowing only a two-out single by freshman Jared Musilli (Branchville, NJ/High Point Regional) in the bottom of the third inning.  Only two other Crusaders reached base after the third inning.  With the win, Sawyer improves to 2-3 on the season and 11-9 in his career.

Senior Jesse Outhouse (Croton Falls, NY/North Salem) had a hit and scored a run for Scranton, which will return to action tomorrow afternoon against Lehigh University in a nine-inning non-conference game in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, beginning at 3:45 p.m.

Today's win moves the Royals into a tie for third place with Catholic University in the Landmark Conference.  The Merchant Marine Academy and Moravian College are currently tied for the top spot with 9-3 records.
