Hartford, Conn. – Freshman 1B Bryan Wolfe (La Habra, Calif.) went 4-for-7 with a double and two runs to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 6/5-3/3 doubleheader sweep against the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division baseball action this afternoon. Trinity, tied for the No. 3 ranking in New England, improves to 21-6 overall and 8-1 in the division which clinches a spot in the NESCAC Championship Tournament for the Bantams after a two-year hiatus. Bowdoin, which had taken the first game of the three-game set in Hartford, 12-11, yesterday, drops to 15-10 overall and 3-3 in the league.

Trailing, 2-0, after two innings, Trinity scored six runs in the bottom of the third frame, as senior CF David Casanova (Bristol Conn.) drew a leadoff walk and later capped off the rally with a two-out, two-run double later in the inning. Wolfe added an RBI single and senior tri-captain James Ramsey (Belmont, Mass.) belted a two-run single in the inning. Trinity senior RHP Edward Donovan (Milton, Mass.) earned the win, scattering 10 hits and walking one with three strikeouts over 6.2 inning of work, and junior righty Ben Goldberg (Plainview, N.Y.) recorded a fly ball to center field with two runners on base to collect the first of his two saves in the twinbill. Ramsey was 3-for-3 as the Bantam DH. Junior Luke Regan (West Roxbury, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, and classmate Dan Findley (Duxbury, Mass.) also had a pair of hits for Bowdoin.

In the nightcap, Trinity scored twice in the second inning on a two-run double by junior OF Michael Rueger (Teaneck, N.J.) and added runs in the third and fifth frames to take a 4-0 lead into the seventh, but Bowdoin scored its first run of the game on an RB single by senior Andrew Belmonte (Beverly, Mass.) in the top of the seventh and pulled within a run with two more runs in the top of the eighth stanza. Junior Tim McGarry (Kennett Square, Pa.) doubled to start the eighth inning, and scored on a single by sophomore John Lefeber (Branford, Conn.) who later scored on a sacrifice fly by Regan. Trinity answered with a solo homer by junior IF Bryan Ginsberg (Westwood, Mass.) in the bottom of the eighth, and Goldberg tossed a perfect ninth to save the game for rookie starter Sean Meekins (Rockville Centre, N.Y.). Meekins improved to 5-0, allowing four hits and an unearned run with two walks and two strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. Rueger and Ginsbgerg each had two hits for the Bantam offense, while Bowdoin's Lefeber retired every batter he faced but Ginsberg in the eighth to keep the Polar Bears in the game over the final 3.1 innings.
