The Lakeland College baseball team split its doubleheader with Concordia University Wisconsin on Sunday.

The Muskies (16-11, 6-6 NAC) got off to a promising start, winning game one, 10-2, before being shutout in game two, 2-0.

Senior right-hander Mike Ruzek (Manitowoc, Wis.) got the ball in game one and continued to impress, earning his fourth victory. Ruzek pitched eight innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, with two strikeouts. Sophomore Justin Reminger (Leopolis, Wis.) pitched one inning of relief, allowing just one hit.

Lakeland staked Ruzek to a three run lead in the top of the first, with Garrett Morris (Janesville, Wis.), Ryan Boettcher (Bonduel, Wis.) and Jess Nickel (Waupun, Wis.) each recorded an RBI single off former Muskie Andrew Mueller.

After a two-run first by the Falcons, neither team scored until the fifth, when Lakeland broke the game open, scoring four runs on six hits, with Boettcher, Charlie Sparrow (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Nate Soley (River Falls, Wis.) each collecting an RBI.

The Muskies added one run in the sixth and two more in the ninth to cement the 10-2 victory.

Boettcher led Lakeland at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Andy Chitwood (Muscoda, Wis.) also recorded three hits, while Nickel finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

In game two, junior right-hander Andy Chitwood took the mound and took the tough luck loss, as he pitched eight innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits while striking out four.

Unfortunately, the Muskies didn't get that timely hit and failed to get their leadoff man on base in all but two innings. Lakeland had three innings in which they recorded multiple hits; however, they failed to get a run across.

Nickel continued to play well offensively, as he was the only Muskie with multiple hits in game two, going 2-for-3.

Lakeland returns to action on Tuesday, April 17, as the Muskies travel to De Pere, Wis., to face St. Norbert College in a non-conference contest. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
