Trinity Baseball Loses At Eastern Connecticut

Mansfield, Conn. – The Eastern Connecticut State University Warrior baseball team scored six unearned runs in the first two innings and cruised to an 11-1 victory over the visiting Trinity College Bantams this afternoon at the Eastern Baseball Stadium. A winner of eight of ten at home this year, No. 15-ranked Eastern improves to 20-6 with its fourth straight win. Trinity had won 14 of its previous 15 games entering play but drops to 21-7.

Leading 2-0, Eastern Connecticut scored four runs in the second on five hits but was helped by a passed ball on an inning-opening strikeout and an infield throwing error. Warrior senior lefty Tom Darby (Middletown, R.I.) gained his third win without a loss, allowing only one run on two hits and five walks while fanning seven in seven innings. Trinity's nine errors led to 10 unearned runs,.

Trinity senior tri-captain C Kevin Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.) drove in the Bantam run on bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning. Bantam rookie southpaw Rob Gau (New Canaan, Conn.) took the loss despite not yielding an earned run and striking out six in five innings of work.
