Hetzer Earns 300th Victory In Saints' 11-3 Win At Capital

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - The Thomas More College baseball team gave Head Coach Jeff Hetzer his 300th career victory today (Tuesday, April 24, 2012) as it defeatd Capital University, 11-3, in a non-conference game at Clowson Field in Columbus, Ohio.

With the win, the Saints improve to 23-10 overall and Hetzer's coaching record is 300-162-3 in 12 seasons at Thomas More.  With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 14-19.

Thomas More scored four in the first, two in the fifth, one in the seventh and four in the ninth, while holding Capital to two in the first and one in the sixth for teh 11-3 victory.

The Saints were led at the plate by sophomore center fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), who was three-for-five with two doubles, three runs batted-in and two runs scored.  Three other Saints had multiple hits in the game as senior second baseman Andrew Clements (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was three-for-five with three RBI, senior first baseman Andrew Thole (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was two-for-four with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored and freshman left fielder Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-four with three runs scored.

Junior Mike Hager (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) earned the win on the mound as he pitched three and one-third innings of relief and gave up one run (unearned) on five hits and struck out two.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (April 28) when it opens a three-game Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) series with a doubleheader with Thiel College.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Tomcat Park in Greenville, Pennsylvania.
