WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 17/21 Shenandoah University returned to the baseball diamond for the first time in eight days Wednesday with a 4-2 non-league victory over Frostburg State.

Shenandoah (28-10) scored one run in the first and two more in the second to provide senior Cory Nelson with enough offense to top the Bobcats (20-17).

Nelson (5-4) allowed two runs on nine hits and three walks in 5.0 innings to earn the victory.

Frostburg scored both of its runs in the fifth with a two-out rally.

Junior Jeff Stanek gave up just one hit in pitching the sixth, seventh and eighth before Kyle Scallion worked a scoreless ninth to post the save.

Scallion induced three groundballs to second base to end the contest.

Senior Mike Minch, who fielded those three ninth-inning groundballs, had what proved to be the game-winning RBI on a sacrifice fly to right.

In the eighth, Chris Ferry, on as a pinch-hitter, drove home Jake Pendergraft with the final run of the contest.

Pendergraft led off with a single to right and was sacrificed to second to reach scoring position.

Joey Donofrio, Corbin Lucas and Tucker Brown all had two hits. Seven of nine position players had at least one hit.

Shenandoah is back in action tomorrow at 6:00 against Stevenson.
