WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 17/21 Shenandoah University ran its winning streak to three games with a 14-5 non-league baseball victory over Stevenson University Thursday evening.

Shenandoah (29-10), the nation's leader in home runs, hit two dingers against the Mustangs (20-20-2).

Senior Cory Nelson hit the second of these two home runs to tie the career record at SU.

Nelson now has 30 career home runs to tie Scott Van Dusseldorp '10 for the all-time lead at Shenandoah.

Nelson's blast, with one out in the fifth, gave the Hornets a 9-3 lead.

Stevenson had scored one run in the first off of SU starter Vince Claudio (6-1) before the Hornets answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame and another four in the second to take a commanding lead.

Claudio allowed five runs on nine hits and one walk in 6.0 innings before turning it over to freshman Matt Riegler for the final nine outs.

Riegler gave up three hits and walked three but struck out two and got two double plays (including a game-ender) to only face the minimum nine batters.

Shenandoah banged out 17 hits in the win, including at least one by all nine starters and four from senior Jake Pendergraft.

Pendergraft had the Hornets other home run, taking Stevenson starter Drew Hutton (0-1) deep in the bottom of the second.

Nelson finished his day 3 for 5 with four RBI on the home run and a double.

Designated hitter Nick Beall was 3 for 4.

SU completes its regular season on Sunday with a 2:00 contest against Wesley.
