In a game that included four lead changes, visiting Washington University handed 15th-ranked DePauw a 7-6 loss. The Tigers dropped to 30-8 with the loss, while the Bears improved to 25-12. Five of the Tigers' eight losses have come by one run.
Washington took a 1-0 lead in the first as Andrew Goldstick and Chris Lowery singled before Brandon Rogalski hit a smash past third for an RBI single.
The Tigers evened the score in the bottom of the second when Robbie Stein led off with a double and scored on Jason Cohen's single.
Zach Starr led off the DePauw third with a single and scored on Zach Galyean's double. Galyean then crossed the plate after Rob McPike singled, Alex Wright walked and Cohen singled to load the bases before Alex Berlyn drove in McPike after reaching on a fielder's choice to make it 4-1.
The Bears closed the gap to 4-3 in the fourth as Chris Lowery led off with a single and moved to second when Brandon Rogalski grounded out. Zack Kessinger then doubled, advancing Lowery to third before a passed ball allowed Lowery to score. Kevin Paule followed with a sacrifice fly which scored Kessinger.
Washington grabbed a 5-4 lead in the fifth when Noah Doppelt singled and scored on Kyle Billig's double. Billig stole third and scored when the throw went into left field, giving the Bears a 5-4 lead.
DePauw regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Stein singled with two outs and scored on Cohen's double. Cohen then scored when Berlyn singled.
The Bears took the lead for good in the sixth when David Madson doubled home Kessinger and Dylan Reid scored Paule with a sacrifice fly.
DePauw had runners in scoring position in each of the final four innings, but hit into two inning-ending double plays, had a runner thrown out at the plate and another picked off.
The Tigers totaled 14 hits in the loss with Stein and Cohen totaling three apiece. Starr, McPike and Berlyn each added two. Washington finished with 10 hits paced by Lowery's three and Rogalski's two.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, April 28, when it hosts Wabash in a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at Noon.
