Baseball: Titans Swept at Bethany

BETHANY, W. Va. - The Westminster College baseball team's offense only managed two runs on Sunday as they were swept at Bethany in a doubleheader by the scores of 3-2 and 3-0. The Titans dropped to 21-15 overall and 12-8 in the PAC, while the Bison improved to 15-20 and 9-12.

Westminster senior pitcher Patrick Mulligan (Brookfield, OH / Brookfield) got the loss in game one and is now 4-2 on the year. He threw a complete game, while giving up three runs (none earned) off six hits. Mulligan walked four batters and fanned five.

The Titans tried to rally in the top of the seventh inning, down 3-1. With two outs, senior Tim Wiand (Pottstown, PA / Owen J. Roberts) connected on a RBI-single, scoring junior Kyle Allen (New Wilmington, PA / West Middlesex). Wiand advance to second on a Bethany balk, however Westminster was unable to score the tying run.

In the nightcap, Westminster senior pitcher Vince Iosue (Euclid, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) got the loss in a complete game effort and is now 3-5 on the year. Iosue gave up three runs off seven hits. He walked two and fanned three.

Bethany scored one run in the first, second, and sixth inning, while the Titans only had one hit.

Westminster will play a nine-inning game at Saint Vincent on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
