MADISON, Wis. – For those who believe in momentum, Edgewood College's doubleheader sweep of Lakeland College might be a good sign. The Eagles received strong pitching performances and timely hitting in their final Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader, defeating the Muskies 3-0 and 8-3 at Stampfl Field in Verona. The Eagles have one more non-conference game in the regular season on Sunday night before the NAC Tournament begins on Thursday.

Senior Miles Mayer dominated Lakeland College (17-21, 7-15 NAC) for eight innings in game one. Mayer held the Muskies to five hits, while walking three and striking out three for his fourth victory of the season. After Mayer gave up a leadoff single to Mike Ruzek to open the ninth, reliever Joe Gura came on to put out the fire. Gura induced a double play ground ball from Garrett Morris and then got Matt Krueger to bounce out to Jake Thome at second base to end the game. Gura earned his fourth save of the season. Edgewood College (16-21, 13-9 NAC) turned a 1-6-3 double play in each of the last three innings.

Edgewood College used their baserunning as a weapon to open the scoring in the second inning.Jake Zadra singled, stole second and moved to third on a groundout. Thome walked to place runners on the corners. The Eagles then executed a perfect double steal to bring Zadra home for a 1-0 lead. Edgewood College stole six bases, led by Zadra who became the fifth Eagle in history to swipe four bases in a game.

In the third inning, Ryan Walker led off with a double and eventually scored on Alex Jaskulski's fielder's choice ground ball. Jaskulski eventually scored when the Muskies attempt at to turn a double play resulted in a wild throw to first base for a 3-0 Eagle lead.

Zadra went 3-for-4 to lead the Eagles at the plate. Mike Selvaggi and Brad Clark both went 2-for-4.

The Eagles jumped on the Muskies in game two with four runs in the first inning. Ryan O'Dell brought home a run with a sacrifice fly followed by an RBI single by Eric Curtis and a two-run single by Jake Thome. In the second inning, Brad Clark drove home Zach Creekmore with a fielder's choice ground ball to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead.

Lakeland College got a run back in the third, before the Eagles blew the game open in the fourth. Clark brought home Creekmore with an RBI single for the first run. After Jaskulski walked Zadra unloaded on an 0-1 pitch hitting it off the top of the wall in left field for a two-run double for an 8-1 lead.

Trevor Koehn pitched seven and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven batters. Brock McGinn and Joe Gura finished the game without allowing another hit. Nine different players each had a single hit. Clark, Thome and Zadra each had two runs batted in. Zadra reached base in his 24th consecutive game, bringing him within two games of the Edgewood College school record. He also has a 13-game hitting streak.

Edgewood College will host UW-Platteville on Sunday night in their regular season finale. Next Thursday, the fifth-seeded Eagles will open the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament, playing second-seeded Benedictine University at Tiedemann Field in Oshkosh.
