The UW-Whitewater baseball team extended their winning streak to eight games with an 11-8 win over Concordia University Tuesday at Kapco Park in Mequon, Wisconsin.  During the eight game win streak the Warhawks have reached double-digits in scoring five times.  The game wraps up regular season play for UW-W who is now 27-13 overall.  Concordia falls to 13-24.

The host Falcons took the first lead when they rocked back-to-back homeruns in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 lead.

The Falcon lead didn't last long as the Warhawks posted four runs in the top of the second.  UW-W scored their first two runs on an error with the bases loaded.  Jared Fon (Germantown) followed with a double to right center with runners on first and third to score two more and give UW-W a 4-2 lead.  UW-W scored their four runs on one hit and two errors.

The Warhawk lead ballooned to 9-2 after two and a half with a five run third.  Ryan Leavitt (Merrill/Merrill) led off the inning with a single through the left side on the second pitch of his at bat.  Another Falcon error allowed Mike Mierow (Brookfield/Central) to reach and advanced Leavitt to third.  Mierow stole second and Steve Bartlein (South Milwaukee/South Milwaukee) followed with a walk to load the bases yet again.  Brandon Egnarski (Watertown/Watertown) drew a walk on six pitches to plate Leavitt and put UW-W ahead 5-2.  A bunt single by David Cladis (Joliet, IL/Joliet Catholic) scored Mierow, gave UW-W a 6-2 lead, and kept the bases loaded.  Matt Beyer (Janesville/Parker) then hit a first pitch single through the left side to score Bartlein and push UW-W out ahead 7-2.  After a Concordia pitching change Dylan Friend (Burlington/Burlington) followed with a ground out but still pushed Egnarski across home plate for an 8-2 lead.  The Warhawks' final run of the inning came on an eventual double play where Cladis scored before the final out was recorded.

Concordia tallied one in the home half of the third and fourth to narrow the Warhawk lead to 9-4.

A one out RBI double by Beyer in the top of the fifth scored Egnarski and gave the Warhawks a 10-4 lead.  Egnarski reached earlier after being hit by a pitch for the second time in the game.

The Falcons chipped away at the lead again in the bottom of the fifth and sixth scoring a single run in each to make it 10-6.

JT Schnedier, pinch running for Mary Herum who singled to lead off the ninth, scored the eleventh run of the game for the Warhawks crossing home on a Mierow double down the left field line to give UW-W a five run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.

The Falcons marked two more runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the ninth to make it 11-8, but couldn't pull off the come from behind win.

Beyer, Herum and Leavitt accounted for six of UW-W's ten hits notching two each.  Beyer also chipped in two RBIs and one run.  Egnarski led the Warhawks with three runs scored, was hit by a pitch twice and reached once on a walk.

The Warhawks used five pitchers in the game with Aaron Leitner (Chilton/Chilton) earning the win.  Leitner improves to 3-2 this season.  The five pitchers combined to give up fifteen hits, strikeout seven and walk three.

The Warhawk baseball season will continue on Friday when postseason play begins at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament at UW-La Crosse.  La Crosse earned the right to host the tournament by winning the WIAC regular season title.  UW-W, the two seed, will play UW-Stevens Point, the three seed, Friday at 1:00 pm.  UW-Oshkosh is the tournament's fourth seed.  The tournament uses a double-elimination format and the winner receives the conference's automatic bid into the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III tournament.
