#9 Kean Powers Past #3 Keystone, 10-1

La Plume, Pa. (5/9/12) – The #9 Kean University baseball team exploded for six runs in their first at-bat en-route to topping #3 Keystone College, 10-1, Wednesday afternoon in a key Mid-Atlantic matchup.

The Cougars improve to 32-10 this season with one regular season game left to play at Farmingdale State College on Friday evening.  The Giants fall to 35-6 in their final regular season matchup.  Both teams earned their respective conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, slated to begin next Wednesday.

Kean pounded out six runs and six hits in the top of the first as senior Eddie Jennings got things started with a two RBI double.  Sophomore Joe O'Connor followed later in the frame with an RBI single.  Senior Vinny Galya kept the inning going with an RBI double and sophomore Tyler Smarslok rounded out the scoring with an RBI single.

The Cougars added a single run in the third and tacked on two more in the seventh.  Kean rounded out the scoring with a single run in the ninth. 

Kean was led by Smarslok who was 3-for-3 with three RBI while O'Connor was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Galya finished the night with two RBI and two hits with a double while Jennings collected two RBI on two doubles.  Senior Dylan Laguna crossed the plate three times with two hits in three at-bats.

On the mound, senior Mike Russo picked up his sixth win.  Russo (6-1) tossed five innings allowing six hits with five strikeouts.  Senior Chris Cirlincione earned the save after tossing four innings.  Cirlincione allowed four hits with four strikeouts.  He also allowed one run.

Kean returns to action on Friday when they close out the regular season at Farmingdale State College at 7 p.m.
