Baseball Starts Season on Road, Drops Doubleheader

LAURINBURG, NC – Lynchburg College got off to a tough start to begin the 2013 season, dropping a pair of games to St. Andrews University, 1-0 and 5-4, in non-conference action. Both were seven inning contests.

Sophomore Brandon Miller got the opening nod on the mound for LC. The Hornets committed a key error in the first, allowing Matt McCue to score the game's only run for the Knights.

Miller held the Knights down the rest of the way, limiting St. Andrews to four hits while allowing the lone unearned run.

The Hornets offense kept the second game close after falling behind 2-0 in the first inning. LC tied up the game in each of the fourth and sixth innings to back the pitching efforts of sophomore Martin Henderlite, freshman Matt Matthews, and junior Zac Patrick.

St. Andrews scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to finish off the sweep.

Sophomore Rob Tomasulo went 2-for-6 at the plate on the day, including three RBI in the second game of the twin bill, while senior Dan Savage went 3-for-6 with his two runs coming in the second game. Senior Ashton Paige was the only other Hornet with hits in both games.

McCue went 3-for-7 on the day for St. Andrews (5-1) with three total runs and a save in the second game.
