CLAREMONT, Calif. – Pomona-Pitzer found a way to match Pacific whenever they put a big inning together Saturday to complete a sweep of the Boxers in baseball action at Alumni Field.
 
In the opener, Pacific tied the Sagehens with a two-run eighth inning, but a single run in the home half of the eighth to take a 4-3 victory.  The Boxers took lead in the nightcap with a four-run fifth inning, but a two-run home half tied it before the Sagehens scored four runs in the final four innings to take the 8-4 win.
 
The contest had been suspended on Friday in the bottom of the seventh inning with Pomona-Pitzer holding on to a 2-1 lead.  The Sagehens pushed across an insurance run once play resumed when Nick Gentili scored on a sacrifice fly by Coleman Lukas.
 
The sweep allowed Pomona-Pitzer to improve to 3-0 of the season, while the Boxers dropped to 0-3.
 
GAME 1: POMONA-PITZER 4, PACIFIC 3
Pacific saw a two-run comeback in the eighth inning be quickly erased as the Sagehens scored one in the home half of the inning to take the 4-3 victory.
 
The Boxers tailed 3-1 after five innings and got things going in the eighth when Nick Garrett (Fr., San Diego, Calif.) singled off reliever Kevin Kannappan to lead off the frame.  Pinch-runner Therone Bridges (Jr,, Vancouver, Wash.) scored three batters later on Logan Moen's (Sr., Brier, Wash.) sacrifice fly.  Justin Strayer (Fr., Ventura, Calif.) followed with a single to left to score Anson Arakaki (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii).
 
The Sagehens wasted little time to break the time against Pacific reliever Quin Moore (Jr., Bellingham, Wash.) in the bottom of the eighth.  Coleman Lukas walked to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Sam Fox's single to left field.
 
Pomona-Pitzer opened scoring in the third inning when Erik Munzer reached and then scored by way of a pair of Pacific errors.  The Boxers took one run back in the fifth when Arakaki doubled to right and scored when Trux French (Sr., Kennewick, Wash.) took a bases loaded walk.  The Sagehens made it a 3-1 lead in the fifth when Bruml's double scored Nick Gentili and Jake Bruml.
 
Moore took the loss for the Boxers in relief, allowing one run on one hits with one strikeout in the eighth inning.  Kannappan earned the win in his one inning of relief while Robert Weller earned the save, striking out two in the ninth inning.  Moen had two hits for the Boxers while Gentili went 4 for 4 to pace the Sagehens.
 
GAME 2: POMONA-PITZER 8, PACIFIC 4
A four-run fifth inning for the Boxers was neutralized once again as the Sagehens scored six inning over the final five innings to complete the sweep of the Boxers.
 
Pomona-Pitzer opened with two runs in the third inning.  Simon Rosenbaum singled to open the frame and scored on a Pacific error.  Mark Okuma added the second run on Munzer's sacrifice fly.
 
Pacific put together their best offensive performance of the weekend in the top of the fifth inning.  Michael Arakaki (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii) led off with a single to left field.  Austin Gallagher (So., Lake Oswego, Ore.) followed with a double and Walker Olis (Fr., Burlington, Wash.) singled to score Arakaki.  Grant Gabriel (Jr., Honolulu, Hawaii) made it four straight hits with a single that plated Gallagher.  Olis went on to score on an error while Gabriel plated on Anson Arakaki's groundout.
 
The Sagehens took two runs back in the home half of the fifth on a RBI single by Moyer and a sacrifice fly from Bruml.  They added one run in the sixth when Fox' single scored Rosenbaum.  Pomona-Pitzer put things out of reach with three runs in the eighth, one on a solo home run by Rosenbaum and two on a double by Bruml.
 
Jimmy Brakebush (Fr., Portland, Ore.) took the loss for the Boxers in relief, allowing one run on three hits in two-third of an inning.  Rob Dittrick (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii) went five innings in his first start of the season, allowing four runs on seven hits with one strikeout.
 
Cameron Yen earned the win for the Sagehens, allowing four runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings.  Weller picked up his second save of the day, retiring all four batters he faced.  Rosenbaum led the Sagehens offensively by going 4 fo4 with three runs scored.  Six different players had one hit apiece for the Boxers.
 
Pacific will take next weekend off before playing in the Northwest-Cascade Challenge from Feb. 22 to Feb. 24.  The Boxers will play games against Concordia (Calif.), Corban and George Fox.
