Rhodes Knocks off Wash U

The Rhodes College baseball team defeated Washington University 10-1 this afternoon at Stauffer Field behind an outstanding pitching performance by sophomore RHP Thomas Beamish. Beamish entered the game in the top of the second, allowing one run over the next seven innings, earning his second victory of the season. Freshman SS Bill Munson led the Lynx offensive attack going 3-5 at the plate with two doubles, two RBIs, and scored twice. With the victory, Rhodes improved to 5-3 on the year.

Freshman LHP Blake Glauben had the start for the Lynx on the mound, but was forced to leave the game after being hit by a line drive in top of the first. Thomas Beamish took over for Glauben in the second, and scattered 6 hits over the next seven innings, walking three and striking out three. Sophomore RHP Blake Harrell finished off the game for Lynx, allowing one hit and striking out two in his lone inning of work.

The Lynx had another productive day at the plate, as they pounded out eleven hits and took advantage of six Wash U walks and two hit batters. On top of what Munson did at the plate, senior 3B Lynden Pindling was 1-3 with 2 runs scored, walked once, got hit by a pitch, and stole a base. Senior LF Channing Arndt was 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Senior 1B Matt Killary was 2-3 with an RBI, scored twice, and walked once. Junior RF Patrick Kilkenny was 1-3 with a triple, scored a run, drove in a run, and walked twice. Sophomore CF Andrew Wallis was 1-3 with an RBI, two runs scored, and walked once.

Rhodes will return to action on Sunday with a double header against visiting Webster University. First pitch is set for 11:00.
