Bats Come Alive as Hornets Dismiss Immaculata, 22-3

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team scored 16 runs in a three inning stretch from the fourth to the sixth, coasting to a 22-3 victory over Immaculata University Monday afternoon on Fox Field.

The Hornets got on the board in the second inning thanks to some sloppy play by the Mighty Macs. Senior Dan Savage and junior Dustin Arrowood started with singles for LC. Sophomore Jay Kenyon tried to sacrifice the runners up 90 feet, but the pitcher threw the ball into right field, allowing Savage to score and Arrowood to move to third.

Sophomore Joe Rogers grounded out to the shortstop allowing Arrowood to score before Wil Parsons reached on an error of his own that brought Kenyon home for the 3-0 lead.

Immaculata tried to come back in the top of the third but ran themselves out of several scoring opportunities. Alex Kobylinski reached on an error to lead off the inning but junior James Womack picked him off during the next at bat to Matt Lawson. The right fielder, Lawson singled but was caught trying to swipe second by Kenyon. It was the second runner that Kenyon caught stealing in as many innings.

Lynchburg ran away with the contest in the fourth inning, getting hits from the first five batters that Aaron Dietrich faced. Arrowood and Kenyon doubled in front of singles by Rogers and Parsons to make the score 5-0 in favor of the Hornets. Senior Ashton Paige finished off the scoring with a long homerun that cleared the left field wall, chasing Dietrich, and making the score 8-0.

The Hornets added eight more runs in the fifth behind eight hits, highlighted by a two-run triple from Parsons.

Paige led the Hornets with a 4-for-5 day with two runs scored and five RBIs. He was a double away from the cycle. Savage added four hits and two runs scored while Kenyon and Parsons had three hits apiece while collecting three and five RBIs respectively.

Alex Kobylinski was 2-for-3 for the Mighty Macs (1-2) with a homer to left coming in the fifth inning.

Lynchburg (5-4) travels to N.C. Wesleyan (5-7) Wednesday, February 27 for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
