CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Jordan Lozzi allowed just three hits in seven scoreless innings to help the Wesley College baseball team to a 7-2 victory at Washington College on Monday afternoon.  The Wolverines improve to 3-0 on the season as the Shoremen dropped their season opener.

A senior from Fallston, Md., Lozzi also fanned six batters while walking three and never really got into a jam until the seventh inning.  After retiring the first two Shoremen in his final inning of work, Lozzi walked a pair and allowed an infield single before striking out his final batter.

Andrew Cooper relieved Lozzi in the eighth and Scott Dougherty pitched a perfect ninth inning, with two strikeouts, in his Wesley debut.

Both teams went scoreless for the first four frames before Cory Smith and Trevor Mears drove in runs in the fifth and sixth inning. Wesley's bats finally broke loose in the seventh for five runs on five hits to go with a couple of Washington errors.

Conner Gobright started the inning with a leadoff walk and advanced to second as Mears reached on a sacrifice bunt.  Matt Robles then laid down a perfect bunt for a single to load the bases for Jon Carlson, who singled home Gobright. Mears then scored as the Shoremen turned a double play with Robles advancing 90 feet to third. After another Washington error scored Robles, Sam Farnell, Corey Jefferson and Steve Perone hit three-straight singles as Wesley sent ten batters to the plate in the seventh.

Perone and Robles had three hits apiece while Carlson came through with his third-straight multi-hit game to open the season.  Mears also scored a pair of runs and drove in another to go with two sacrifice hits.

Wesley will have off until March 10, when it travels to Vero Beach, Fla., to play six games in three days against Richard Stockton (2 games), Bridgewater State, Norwich and Hilbert (2 games).
