Union, N.J. (2/26/13) – Rookie Emilio Calderon tossed eight and a third innings of shutout ball helping the Kean University baseball team to a 6-0 blanking of Moravian College on Tuesday afternoon.

Calderon (1-0) scattered eight hits and didn't walk a batter.  He struck out four.  Junior Nick Zucchero closed out the game, recording the final two outs.  #10 Kean improves to 2-1.

In what turned out to be a pitchers' duel, the Cougars scratched across a single run in the bottom of the second, aided by two Greyhound (1-2) miscues.  With two outs, sophomore Anthony Fischetti reached on the first error of the inning.  Two batters later, junior Tyler Smarslok lined a double into the gap, plating the first run of the contest.

That would be the only hit that starter Anthony Zaloga (0-1) would allow in his six innings of work.  He also fanned six and walked just one.

Kean was able to break the game open in the bottom of the seventh.  Freshman Ryan Kelley got things going with an RBI infield single and sophomore Andy Lopez gave the Cougars breathing room with a two RBI triple, giving Kean a 4-0 lead.

The Cougars added one two more in the eighth as Moravian's fielding continued to struggle, with three miscues in the frame.

Junior Shane Alvarez was the only player from either team with a multi-hit day as he finished 2-for-4.  Fischetti crossed the plate twice for Kean.

The Cougars continue their home stand and will face DeSales University on Thursday, February 28th at 2:30 p.m.
