Greensboro Beats LaGrange 2-1 in Game One of Series

The Greensboro College baseball team (8-6, 4-6 USA South) defeated LaGrange (4-8, 4-6 USA South) 2 -1 on Friday evening. The Pride used a fast start and strong pitching to propel them to the victory.

The Pride struck first with one run in the first. Matt Irwin started the game off with a walk, and then stole second and third base. Austin Catherina doubled to right field scoring Irwin for the 1-0 lead.

Greensboro would extend the lead in the fourth. Steven Pfeiffer led it off with a single to right field. Jon Krecicki singled advancing Pfeiffer to second. Irwin plated Pfeiffer on a single through the left side to make it 2-0.

The Panthers reached the board in the sixth for their only run of the game to cut the lead to 2-1. However The Pride bullpen pitched three scoreless innings securing the 2-1 victory.

Greensboro was led by Pfeiffer with three hits. Krecicki chipped in with two hits. Catherina had one run batted in. Irwin had a game high three stolen bases.

Kris Peeden got the win going five innings allowing one run on three hits and striking out six. Christian Snider pitched three shutout innings giving up two hits and Brian Robbett got the save.

The Pride will look to take game two of the three game series tomorrow against LaGrange. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
