Baruch Baseball Earns 1st Victory, Defeat Mt. St. Mary (7-5), Torres Wins 100th Career Game

The Baruch baseball team earned their first victory with a 7-5 defeat over the Blue Knights from Mount St. Mary College on Friday afternoon at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, New York.

The victory is the 100th career win for Head Coach Jose Torres.

The three day weekend competition features Baruch, Ithaca, Eastern Connecticut, SUNY-Old Westbury, Southern Maine and Mount St. Mary each playing four total games in one of the prime facilities on eastern Long Island.

The Bearcats began strong in the first inning against their opponent from the Skyline Conference with three runs via one hit and three errors for the 3-0 lead.
Nicholas Pomo-Romansingled and came around later to score on a wild pitch for one of the three opening runs.

The Bearcats added three more runs in the third inning highlighted by a two run homer by
Eric Ulino. Angel Tejedaalso scored in the inning from third base on a balk for the 6-0 lead.

The Blue Knights slowly battled back into the game with a pair of runs in the third and sixth innings to cut the score to 6-4.

The Bearcats added another run in the seventh with an RBI double by Tejeda to score Pomo-Roman for the 7-4 advantage.

The Blue Knights scored their fifth run in the eighth inning, but that was all as the Bearcats held on to the 7-5 victory.

Christopher Maisonetearns the pitching victory, while Joseph Caligets the save by allowing only one hit and retiring three batters in the ninth inning.

The Bearcats will return to action Saturday with games against Ithaca (10:30 am) and SUNY-Old Westbury (1:30 pm).
