Thomas More Splits Doubleheader With Trine in Florida

(AUBURNDALE, Fla.) - The Thomas More College baseball team split an in-region doubleheader with Trine University today (Tuesday, March 5, 2013) on the second day of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Florida.  Thomas More won game one, 3-0, but fell, 6-2, in the nightcap.

With the split, the Saints are now 2-1 on the season and the Thunder are 3-2.

In the first game, the Saints scored three runs in the sixth, while holding the Thunder scoreless for the 3-0 victory. 

On the mound, sophomore Tim Baldrick (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) earned the win as he pitched six and one-third innings, while senior David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) earned the save as he pitched two-thirds of an inning and struck out two.

At the plate, junior infielder Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was two-for-three with a double and junior outfielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-four.

In the nightcap, Trine scored one in the first, one in the second, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the seventh, while holding Thomas More to one in the third and one in the sixth for the 6-2 victory.

Senior outfielder Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) led the Saints' offense as he was two-for-two.

Senior Mike Hager (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) suffered the loss on the mound as he pitched five innings and gave up five earned runs.

The Saints return to action tomorrow (Wednesday, March 6) when they play Eastern Mennonite University in a single nine-inning game.  First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. on field No. 1 at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale.
