UMHB sweeps Robert Morris

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team held the Robert Morris bats in check in both games and the Cru offense did the rest in a doubleheader sweep of the Eagles Wednesday in Belton. UMHB took game one 9-3 and won game two to improve to 7-7 on the season. Robert Morris falls to 6-2 on the year with the two losses.

The Cru roared back from an early deficit to post a 9-3 victory in game one. The Eagles scored three runs in the top of the first as UMHB pitchers hit three batters and walked three more. The Cru answered with a six-run second inning. Tyler Taute singled home the first two runs and an error allowed two more runs to score. Chris Florack added an RBI triple and scored on another error. UMHB then put three more on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Justin Dingman blasted a two-run homer and Seth Mogavero added an RBI single. Jeremy Sapp earned the win with four and a third innings of one-hit relief work. Four Cru pitchers combined to limit the Eagles to two hits in the win. Florack and Robert Loewe had two hits apiece for UMHB.

The Cru also fell behind in game two before rallying for a victory. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before Chase Burrow tripled and scored on Taute's sacrifice fly to tie it in the bottom of the second. Robert Morris retook the lead in the top of the third inning, but Florack's bases loaded double in the bottom of the fourth plated all three runners to give UMHB a 4-2 lead. Taute doubled home Burrow in the fifth to make it 5-2 Cru. RMU added a run in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 5-3 but Chance Ryan struck out three in the top of the seventh to notch his first save of the season. Jordan Mattke earned the win to move to 2-0. Florack had three hits and drove in three runs for UMHB. Burrow, Garrett Webb and Will Stafford added two hits apiece.

The Cru will continue its home stand with the start of American Southwest Conference West Division play this weekend. UMHB will host Texas Lutheran for a three-game series opening with a 6:00 PM single game on Friday.
