FORT MYERS, Fla. – A two-out single in the top of the 10th inning stood as the winning-run as Ohio Northern University dealt the Tomcats a 10-9 loss Tuesday afternoon at Terry Park.

Thiel (2-2) starter Parker Meyers (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) went 4.1 innings but did not figure into the decision after giving up five earned runs on seven hits while striking out six. Freshman Pat Duncan (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North), who came on with no outs in the sixth, suffered the loss after allowing one earned run on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

The Tomcats swung the bats well, collecting 14 hits. Four Tomcats posted multi-hit games with Cody Trinch (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) leading the way. Trinch added to his torrid start with his second three-hit game of the season, finishing 3-for-5 with a run scored and three runs batted in. Nick Schiavonni (Boiling Spring, Pa./Trinity) went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Jarod Nanna (Johnstown, Pa./Conemaugh) and Doug Farley (Linesville, Pa./Linesville) each went 2-for-5.

Brady Foley picked up the win in relief for Ohio Northern (3-2) after he didn't allow a hit in 2.1 innings with three walks in relief of starter Matt Magni.

The Polar Bears' Dan Belliveau went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Zach Niekamp was 3-for-6 with two runs batted in, including the game-winning RBI on a flare single with two outs in the tenth.

The Tomcats trailed for most of the game, as the Polar Bears got out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Thiel duplicated that with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame, as Trinch singled to score both Eric Steininger (West Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg) and Eric King (Butler, Pa./Butler).

Ohio Northern answered right back in the top of the second on an RBI groundout by Belliveau and an RBI triple by Cory Martin to take a 4-2 lead.

The Tomcats responded with a three-run third inning keyed by Nanna's RBI single and Schiavonni's two-run single to right center.

A three-run sixth inning by the Polar Bears made it 9-5 in favor of the visitors, but a four-run seventh inning by Thiel once again tied the game, 9-9.

Ohio Northern appeared to take a 10-9 lead in the eighth on a Tom Walton double, but the call was reversed after it became apparent that the lead runner failed to touch third. The heads up play by the defense got Thiel out of a jam, but the Tomcats failed to take advantage- leaving two runners on base and not recording a hit in the remaining three innings.

Thiel returns tomorrow when they take on Alvernia University. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
