LONGVIEW, TX. - The Louisiana College Wildcats split a doubleheader with LeTourneau on Saturday to win their opening series American Southwest Conference play.

The Wildcats dropped game one by a final score of 6-1, but came came back with a 3-2 win in the rubber match to take the series.

Seth Webster took the loss in game one to drop to 2-2 on the season, as a four-run third inning was too much for the Wildcats to overcome, eventually falling to the Yellow Jackets by a final score of 6-1.

LC's recent hot bats were cooled by LeTourneau's Cody Whitley, who threw all seven innings, giving up only two hits.

The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout by left fielder Mark Riendeau in the first inning. LeTourneau would answer that run immediately, however, as a solo home run by Ryan Bertram in the second inning tied the game at one a piece.

The four-run third inning gave the Yellow Jackets a 5-1 lead, and was followed by another solo home run in the fourth inning by Jay Lutz to put LeTourneau ahead by the eventual final score of 6-1.

LC once again took the early lead in game two when right fielder Kade Van Norman hit an RBI triple to right field in the top of the third inning, scoring Cole Bagbey.

LeTourneau would answer right back with two runs of their own in the home half of the third inning. Brittinie Alcorn drove in Lutz with a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game 1-1, followed by a go-ahead RBI single from Chris Bertram.

Bagbey would tie things back up in the fourth inning with an RBI infield single past the pitcher's mound, scoring third baseman Taylor Beavers. The Wildcats would eventually take the lead for good in the eighth inning when freshman pinch-runner Cody McNeal, who replaced Jake Hillman after a hit by pitch, scored on a balk by LeTourneau relief pitcher Megan Hill.

LC sophomore pitcher Josh Lang (2-2) had perhaps his best outing in a Wildcat uniform to date, throwing a complete game while giving up six hits, striking out 10 and walking just one Yellow Jacket batter.

With the series win, the Wildcats move to 8-7 on the season, 2-1 in ASC. They will face local rival LSU-Alexandria at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
