FOREST GROVE – Pacific received a complete game gem from pitcher Matt Delegato (Sr., Hillsboro, Ore.) and the offense capitalized on a key error by the George Fox defense in a three-run sixth inning as the Boxers earned their first win of the season Sunday, knocking off the Bruins 3-0 in Northwest Conference baseball action at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.

The complete game was the first of his Pacific career for Delegato, who made the starting rotation for the first time this season.  He improved to 1-1 on the season by allowing seven hits and four walks while striking out five.  He coaxed 14 Bruins' batters into fly outs.

Pacific, meanwhile, managed just four hits against George Fox starter Tom Zarosinski, who did not allow a Pacific base-runner past second base until the fateful sixth inning.

Donnie Bradley (So., Beaverton, Ore.) drew a leadoff walk to open the frame, then Zarosinski proceeded to hit both Charlie Gaff (Fr., Stockton, Calif.) and Walker Olis (Fr., Burlington, Wash.) to load the bases.  Logan Moen (Sr., Brier, Wash.) struck out for the first of the inning and the Bruins' picked up the second out when Bradley was tagged on a botched squeeze play.

George Fox appeared to be out of the inning when Nick Garrett (Fr., San Diego, Calif.) hit a ground ball to Bruins' shortstop Zach Hegelmeyer, but bobbled the ball to allow Gaff to score the game-winning run.  Michael Arakaki (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii) followed with a two-run single to left center field that gave the Boxers a much-needed cushion.

The Bruins had their chances against Delegato, leaving 10 men on base and five in scoring position.  George Fox had runners on first and second with one out in the fourth when Hegelmeyer lined into a double play to end the threat.  The Bruins then had the bases loaded with one out in the sixth on two walks and a bunt single by Clifford.  Zac Israel hit a dribbler to Delegato, resulting in the force play at home, and Hegelmeyer struck out to end the inning.

Zarosinski fell to 1-3 with the loss, allowing three unearned runs on four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Arakaki went 2 for 3 with two RBIs to lead the Boxers.  Tim Williams went 2 for 2 to pace the Bruins.

The win snapped an 11-game losing streak for the Boxers, who improved to 1-11, 1-5 NWC.  George Fox dropped to 12-5, 5-1 NWC.

Pacific returns to Northwest Conference play next weekend, traveling to Lewis & Clark for a three-game series.  The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m., and a single game on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
