Greensboro Drops Doubleheader to Transylvania

The Greensboro baseball team (9-12 overall) fell to Transylvania (4-3 overall) on Monday afternoon. The Pride lost game one 9-1 and game two 9-3, despite taking early leads after the first inning in both games.

The Pride struck first with a run in the first inning. Bill Wooding singled to third base to start things off. James Feldmann followed with a single to left center moving Wooding to second. Seth Caison scored Wooding with an RBI single up the middle making it 1-0.

Transylvania got on the board in the fourth, posting five runs to take a 5-1 lead. Greensboro tried to respond in the bottom half of the inning getting runners in scoring position with one out but came up empty.

The Pioneers added four runs in the seventh pushing the lead to 9-1. The Pride threatened in the bottom half of the seventh with bases loaded but were unable to push any runs across, falling 9-1.

Matt Irwin and Aaron Navarro led the way with two hits. Caison had one run batted in.

In game two, Greensboro again jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning. dIrwin started the game with a single through the right side. Navarro singled up the middle advancing Irwin to second. Both runners moved up a base on a passed ball and then scored on a third strike swing by Feldmann giving the 2-0 lead.

However, the Pioneers would respond with five runs in the fifth inning taking a 5-2 lead. Transylvania extended the lead in the sixth plating three runs making it 9-1.

Greensboro responded with a run in the bottom half of the sixth. Austin Catherina tripled to left center bringing in Feldmann for the final run of the game and falling 9-2.

Navarro led the way in the second game with two hits. Cody York, Irwin, and Catherina had one hit apiece.

The Pride will conclude their spring break trip in Florida tomorrow against Rhodes. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Winter Haven, Florida.
