GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Guilford's baseball team hit back-to-back-to-back homeruns in the bottom of the first inning to help the Quakers defeat nonconference opponent Stevenson University Tuesday, 12-10.

John Macon Smith, Corey Wallace and Charles Noble each got a piece of three consecutive homers to start the game, putting the Quakers up 4-0 after the first inning. Guilford continued expanding the lead, up 8-0 after the fourth, due in part to Smith's two RBI. Stevenson countered with a two-run fifth and six-run seventh, tying the score at eight runs apiece.

The Mustangs went up 10-8 in the eighth, thanks to a Davis Grove two-run single. Guilford's Smith, Noble and Nathan Fulbright drove in a collective four runs in the bottom of the eighth, clinching the 12-10 victory in favor of the host Quakers.

Smith hit a team-best 4-for-5 with a home run and a game-high five RBI. Wallace had three hits and three RBI. Noble and Fullbright had three hits and two RBI apiece. Tyler Hunt (1-1) earned the win on the mound for the Quakers, pitching 2.1 innings. Justin Morrison received the save, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Stevenson's Grove tallied three hits and two RBI. Brad Blum had three RBI and two hits. Andrew Haab (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season.
