DOVER, Del. – Jordan Lozzi threw seven shutout innings and Cory Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as the Wesley College baseball team blanked Frostburg State, 6-0, in the Capital Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Friday afternoon at Bob Reed Field.  The Wolverines improve to 9-2 on the year while the Bobcats fall to 9-5.

A senior from Forest Hill, Md., Lozzi allowed just three hits and struck out three to record his third victory of the year in as many starts.  Andrew Cooper relieved him to start the eighth, and the junior allowed just two hits over the final two frames to seal the victory for Wesley.

Both Smith and Conner Gobright collected three hits apiece while Trevor Mears recorded a multi-hit game in his CAC debut. Also driving in runs for Wesley was Jon Carlson, Sam Farnell, Corey Jefferson and Gobright.

After both teams went scoreless in the first two frames, the Wolverines recorded three runs in both the third and sixth innings.  Smith started off the third with a single and got to third after a double by Morgan Rupp.  Farnell then drove in what would be the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly to right field.

With one out, Rupp stole third and scored on a Jefferson single to center field.  Steve Perone then drew a free pass and Gobright singled through the left side to drive in Jefferson from second.

Lozzi faced the minimum in the fourth and fifth innings and got out of a minor jam in the sixth to keep Wesley on top, 3-0.  In Wesley's half of the frame, Carlson hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Perone who led off the inning with a single and got to third on back-to-back singles by Gobright and Mears.  A wild pitch by reliever Dylan Shupe allowed both Gobright and Mears to get into scoring position and Smith brought them both in a with an opposite field single.

Cody Ellsworth received the loss for the Bobcats, allowing six earned runs on ten hits threw 5.1 innings of work. Kevin Kean had two of FSU's five hits.

The CAC rivals will conclude their three-game series on Sunday, March 17, in a 12 pm doubleheader.
