WINTER HAVEN, Fla.--Mike Rubino went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in to help No. 15-ranked Western New England cruise past Rowan, 16-5, in RussMatt Baseball Invitational action at Chain of Lakes Field on Monday. The Golden Bears improve to 6-2 on the season while the Profs dip to 8-3.

With Rubino's first hit of the day, which was a 5th-inning single in his third plate appearance, he broke Tony Trubia's all-time school record for base hits. A senior third baseman out of Northford, Conn. (Hill Regional Career), Rubino has 13 hits this season to give him 220 for his career, eclipsing the 217 that Trubia compiled from 2008-11.

"For Mike to break the school (career hits) record this early in his senior year is really impressive," said Western New England coach Matt LaBranche. "He works very hard at his craft. (It's) hard earned and a well-deserved accomplishment."

Senior shortstop Kyle McKelvey also rapped three hits and drove in two runs for the Golden Bears, who outhit the Profs 15-9. Senior co-captain Matt Anthonis and junior Jeff Schult chipped in two hits apiece.

For Rowan, Sean Kelly went 3-for-5 and Kevin McMenamin, 2-for-4.

Clinging to a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth inning, Western New England put the game away with an eight-run frame. McKelvey ignited the explosive offense with a RBI-double.

Senior Mike Lospinuso pitched eight innings to improve to 2-0, scattering six hits while allowing three runs (two earned) and a walk. He also struck out four batters.

"This was a big win for us today. I couldn't be happier with how the team bounced back today after yesterday's marathon day," LaBranche said. "Lospo saved the pen with his effort and gave our bats a chance to wake up."
