Trinity Baseball Salvages Doubleheader Split Against Rutgers-Camden

Auburndale, Fla. - Senior captain RHP Ben Goldberg (Plainview, N.Y.) allowed two hits and two runs with two walks and one strikeout over five innings to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-2 victory over the Rutgers University-Camden Scarlet Raptors in RussMatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational action this afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park. The Bantams, ranked No. 19 in the nation, move to 4-3 having dropped the first game of the doubleheader against the Scarlet Raptors, 11-3.

Trailing, 1-0, after three innings, Trinity senior captain SS Stephen Rogers (Watertown, Mass.) doubled home classmate Alex almeida (Bridgeport, Conn.) in the top of the fourth frame and went on to score the game-winning run on a wild pitch. Almeida tripled to lead off the fifth inning, and scored a needed insurance run on a single by senior captain OF Michael Rueger (Teaneck, N.J.). Bantam sophomore righty Sean Meekins (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) pitched two innings in relief to record save.

In the opener, the Scarlet Raptors pounded out 19 hits and scored in five of the seven innings. Trinity sophomore C Robert Ferrara (Fairfield, Conn.) had a two-run double, Almeida added an RBI single for the Bantam offense.
