ALBION, Mich. – Albion College collected 20 hits – 10 in each game – in sweeping a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader from Kalamazoo College by scores of 10-7 and 5-2 at Frank Joranko Field.
The Britons, who won all four games in the weekend series, climbed back to .500 for the season at 6-6.
Albion erased a 4-1 deficit in game one with a seven-run rally in the sixth. Alex Schumaker lifted a sacrifice fly to score Eric Shimmel, Michael Fischbach and B.J. Konkle scored on wild pitches, and Brendan Diamond, Adam Mazza, and Fischbach hit RBI singles.
The Britons added three insurance runs in the seventh as Kyle Kowal slugged a RBI double and Davin Montgomery drew a walk with the bases loaded.
First-year pitcher Craig Conway picked up his second win of the season by going five innings. He yielded four runs on five hits and four walks. He struck out eight batters.
Albion scored three times in the first inning of game two and it never trailed. The Britons were clinging to a 3-2 lead in the sixth when an error by the shortstop allowed Lee Madziar and Mazza to cross the plate.
Ross Hall pitched the complete game for his first victory of the season. He surrendered three hits and six walks.
Kowal and Mazza led Albion with four hits apiece in the doubleheader. Fischbach went 3-for-5 with three walks, and Konkle and Brendan Diamond also picked up three hits apiece.
Albion has a Tuesday non-league date at Ohio Northern University before gearing up for a four-game league series against Trine University on Friday and Saturday.
