Union, N.J. (3/26/13) – Sophomore Andy Lopez drove in four with two extra base hits, including the first longball of the season as #5/6 Kean University dispatched SUNY College at Old Westbury, 10-3.

Junior Nick Zucchero (1-0) picked up the win as he tossed seven innings, scattering six hits and two runs.  He fanned five and walked one in his first collegiate start.

The Cougars (14-4) took care of business early, plating seven runs in the first three frames.  Lopez started off the game on the right foot as he lofted Kean's first homerun of the season, a two-run shot, in the bottom of the first.  In a three run second, rookie Matt Meleo drove home designated hitter Anthony Fischetti with a triple to right and Lopez answered later in the inning with a two RBI triple, giving Kean an early 5-0 lead.

Old Westbury (6-9) broke up the perfect game in the fourth with a two-out double by senior Brian Walsh.  One batter later, Jonathan Pagan erased the shutout with an RBI single.  Kean put the game out of reach with two runs in their half of the seventh.  Junior Joe O'Connor crossed the plate for the final Cougar run with his fourth stolen base of the day, tying a single-game record.

O'Connor finished with two hits and three runs scored while Lopez was 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Senior Stephen Chapter suffered the loss for the Panthers.  Chapter (1-2) allowed eight runs, seven earned, in five innings of work.  He walked two and struck out two while allowing 10 hits.

Offensively, Pagan tallied two RBI for Old Westbury in the loss.

The Cougars head to the road for their first east coast road contest of the season, facing off against St. Joseph's College-Long Island on Thursday at 3 p.m.
