More news about: UW-Whitewater

The UW-Whitewater baseball team, ranked fifteenth in the D3baseball.com poll, ran its early season win streak to four with an 11-4 win over the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Tuesday in Claremont, California.

While starter Justin Lambert was holding MIT off the board, UW-W took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third.  Dylan Friend's double was followed by a Jared Fon walk.  Mikole Pierce brought in Friend with a single, and #Sam Keller Jr# doubled in two.

MIT cut the lead to 3-1with a tally in the top of the fourth.

Back-to-back two out doubles by Michael Gonzalez and Friend plated two, including what proved to be the winning run, in Whitewater's half of the fourth for a 5-1 lead.

MIT pulled closer with two in the top of the six, making it 5-3, but a Gonzalez RBI single and Pierce's two run single in the bottom half of the frame boosted Whitewater's margin to 8-3.

After MIT scored once in the top of the seventh, Gonzalez stroked a two run homer to left in the bottom of the inning to give Whitewater a 10-4 lead after seven innings.

Steve Bartlein's run scoring double in the eighth boosted that lead to 11-4 and closed the scoring.

Lambert went the first six innings to boost his record to 3-1.  The senior righthander allowed three earned runs on eight hits, talking two and striking out six.  Brock Liston and Scott Plaza each pitched an inning of scoreless relief for UW-W.

Gonzalez, 3x5 with four runs driven in and three scored, led the Warhawk offense.  Friend and Fon each had two hits and two runs scored.  The threesome, at the top of the UW-W order, totaled seven hits and seven runs scored.
