PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville baseball team fell in its third Freedom Conference game of the season to the Misericordia Cougars by the score of 19-4 on Friday afternoon on Manhattanville Field.

Freshman Chris Lattarulo (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) hit his first career home run, while sophomore Nick Euvino (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) launched a two-run double off the top of the outfield wall to drive in a combined three of Manhattanville's run. Sophomore Kevin Brady (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) also drove in a run with a base knock in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The first inning went smoothly for both starting pitchers as Evan Robaczewski matched junior Spencer Samelson (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) with a zero in the first inning. Samelson allowed one run in the top of the second as the Cougars took the early lead.

With one out in the bottom of the second, Lattarulo was at the plate and sent a pitch sailing over the center field wall to tie the game. The home run was Manhattanville's first home run of the season.

The Cougars regained the lead in the top of the third inning as Ryan Cacchioli doubled over the head of the right fielder's head to chase around two runs to give his team a 3-1 lead. The top of the fourth also saw the Cougars score four more runs with the biggest blow of the frame coming off the bat of Kenny Durling, who sent a two-run home run over the left center field wall to put his team up by six.

In the bottom of the fourth, sophomore Bobby Guerra (Bronx, N.Y./Arlington) reached on a one our single and was followed by freshman Jake McGrath (Pound Ridge, N.Y./Fox Lane) walking to put a pair of runners on base. After a groundout, Euvino was up and sent a pitch sailing towards the right center field wall that was less than two feet from clearing and being a home run but did bring around Guerra and McGrath.

Sophomore Zack Zareva (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) came on to pitch and ended up going two strong innings of relief while just allowing a pair of hits while striking out two over his outing. In between Zareva's innings on the mound, Brady singled to center to drive home senior Johnny LoVetere (Southbury, Conn./Canterbury), who reached on a two out single and stole second to get into scoring position.

The Cougars hung up a crooked number with a nine-run seventh inning off of three Valiant pitchers. Graduate student Donny Pitasi (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane), junior Ryan Blinderman (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) and senior Don Fisher (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) surrendered a combined nine runs on six hits while the defense committed one error in the field during the frame.

Sophomore Brian Lobel (Purchase, N.Y./Harrison) made his second appearance of the season to start the top of the eighth inning, and allowed one run while striking out his first batter of the season. Junior Matt Mullin (New York, N.Y./St. John's Prep) made his season debut in the ninth and allowed the final two runs of the game as the Cougars capped off its run output at 19.

Earning the win was Robaczewski (4-1), who allowed all four Manhattanville runs on six hits while tying a season-high in strikeouts with seven. Brandon Barber, Shane McGraw and Max Weintraub combined to allow on hit over the final three innings of the game.

Taking the loss was Samelson (0-1) after going four innings and allowing six earned runs on eight hits while walking a pair and also hitting three batters. Zareva was the only pitcher to not allow a run over two innings of relief. Pitasi was saddled for a pair of runs, while Blinderman was charged with four and Fisher allowed a pair in the seventh inning. Lobel and Mullin closed out the game for the Valiants.

Manhattanville (3-9, 1-2 Freedom) will look to come back in tomorrow's doubleheader scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. on the road at Misericordia (10-4, 1-1 Freedom). If there are any changes in tomorrow's schedule, updates will be announced on GoValiants.com as soon as they are confirmed.
