Southern Maine Upends Warhawks

Southern Maine jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and never looked back in a 7-1 victory over UW-Whitewater in Auburndale, Florida Wednesday.  The Warhawks fall to 7-3 and Southern Maine ups their record to 10-3.

Down 4-0 in the top of the fourth, Dylan Friend (Burlington/Burlington) led off the inning with a single to left field.  Jared Fon (Germantown/Germantown) followed with a walk.  After a pop-up and fielder's choice UW-W had runners on the corners; Friend at third and Sam Keller, Jr. at first.  Steve Bartlein (South Milwaukee/South Milwaukee) followed with a single and Friend scored the only Warhawk run of the game.

UW-W tallied six hits in the game and left seven on base.  The defense recorded a season-high seven errors in the loss.

Southern Maine had five players record two hits and senior pitcher Ryan Yates tossed seven and two-thirds innings to record his first win of the season.  The Huskies did not commit an error in the game.

This game concludes competition for the Warhawks on their annual spring trip.  The Warhawks return to Whitewater for a doubleheader against Ripon College on Saturday, March 30 beginning at 1:00 pm.
