UMHB beats Concordia Texas 7-0

Austin, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team broke open a tight game with a five-run seventh inning as the Cru went on to a 7-0 victory over Concordia Texas Thursday night in Austin. UMHB improves to 12-13 overall and 5-5 in American Southwest Conference West Division play with the victory. The Cru also beats Concordia in Austin for the first time since the 2007 season. The loss drops the Tornados to 14-16 overall and 6-4 in the ASC West on the season.

The Cru took a 2-0 lead when Robert Loewe tripled home a run and came around to score on Tyler Taute's RBI single in the top of the sixth inning. UMHB then broke the game open in the next inning. Zack Whiddon tripled home two runs and one batter later, Loewe added a two-run triple of his own. Loewe would score on Taute's RBI double to push the lead to 7-0. Aaron Barteau pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the eighth to keep Concordia scoreless

Kreece Cooper allowed just one hit over six innings of work to raise his record to 2-2 on the year. Cooper struck out six to help overcome seven walks. Barteau tossed three innings of two-hit relief for his first save of the year, striking out four and walking just one. Loewe, Whiddon and Taute had two hits apiece to lead a nine-hit UMHB attack and all three players drove in at least two runs.

The two teams will close out the series with a 1:00 PM doubleheader tomorrow in Austin. UMHB will then continue its road trip with a 6:00 PM non-conference single game at Southwestern University next Tuesday in Georgetown.
