FOREST GROVE – Willamette starters Peter Hoffman and Parker Johnson held Pacific to seven hits combined in two games Friday, leading the way for the Bearcats as they swept the Boxers in a Northwest Conference baseball doubleheader at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.

Hoffman allowed the Boxers just one hit over the first seven innings while Walker Olis (Fr., Burlington, Wash.) had two of the Boxers' three hits as Willamette went on to the 4-1 victory in the opener.  Johnson threw five innings of no-hit baseball and did not allow an earned run as the 5-1 win completed the twinbill sweep.  Brandon Chinn led Willamette's offensive charge with five hits in the two games.

With the victories, Willamette improved to 11-15, 6-8 NWC.  Pacific fell to 7-16, 4-7 NWC.

GAME 1 – WILLAMETTE 4, PACIFIC 1
Willamette made Pacific starter Rob Dittrick (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii) work hard in the first inning, with the first batters working to full counts and multiple foul balls.  Giza drew a walk to open the game, advanced to second on walk and took third on a Pacific error.  He ten scored on Tiras Koon's fielder's choice.

From there, the Bearcats simply played a game of add-on with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.  Andrew Wilson got on with a one-out single in the fourth, starting a string of four straight Willamette singles in the frame.  Wilson eventually scored on Rolenn Himuro's base hit before Dittrick coaxed Giza into a double play to end the inning.

Hunter Gallant scored Willamette's fifth inning run, singling with one out and scoring on Brad Breier's double that landed at the base of the left field wall.  Austin Hagarty accounted for the run the seventh when he singled with one out and scored on a single by Giza.

Pacific had only three base runners over the first seven innings before scoring their lone run in the eighth.  Nick Tasaka (Sr., Hawaii Kai, Hawaii) was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, advanced to second on Austin Gallagher's (So., Lake Oswego, Ore.) single and scored on a ground out by Donnie Bradley (So., Beaverton, Ore.).

Hoffman was in control from start to finish for Willamette to improve to 4-4 on the season.  He allowed one run on three hits and seven strikeouts.  Dittrick dropped to 2-3 with the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts in six innings of work. Chinn led Willamette by going 3 for 4 while four other Bearcats finished with two hits apiece.

GAME 2 – WILLAMETTE 5, PACIFIC 1
Willamette kept their steady bats going in the nightcap, but came up empty over first four innings.  The Bearcats had the bases loaded with one out in the fourth, but Pacific starter Kyle Treadway (So., Phoenix, Ore.) got a force out at the plate and then coxed Giza into a pop out to escape the inning.

The Bearcats parlayed an error into the game's first run in the fifth.  Hagarty reached on the error, advanced to third on a double by Gallant and scored on a single by Breier.  Pacific tied the game in the home half of the fifth without the benefit of a hit.  Michael Arakaki (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii) reached on a leadoff walk, stole second and third and scored when Dan Jaffe (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) reached on an error.

Wilson led off the Willamette sixth when he was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on Himuro's bunt single and scored when Giza reached by way of an error.  Himuro made it a 3-1 lead when he scored on Hagerty's sacrifice fly.

Bradley broke up Johnson's no-hit bid when he singled to right to lead off the sixth.  He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and third on a fly out, but was left stranded.  The Bearcats, meanwhile, padded their lead in the seventh when Hirsch led off with a single and scored on Wilson's sacrifice fly.

Pacific squandered another golden scoring opportunity in the eighth when Jaffe and Ben Duerr (Fr., Lebanon, Ore.) hit back-to-back singles to open the inning.  Jaffe advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, but Olis hit into a fly out to leave the catcher stranded.  Willamette, meanwhile, added one more in the top of the ninth when Hirsch reached on a one-out error and scored on a single by Chinn.

Johnson finished up the Bearcats' second complete game gem of the day, allowing one unearned run on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.  He improved to 1-1 on the season.  Treadway dropped to 1-6 with the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits with two walks in five innings of work.  Gallant, Hirsch, Chinn and Himuro all had two hits to lead Willamette offensively.

Pacific and Willamette will wrap up their three-game NWC series with a single game on Saturday.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
