Thomas More Splits PAC Doubleheader With Westminster

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Westminster College today (Saturday, March 30, 2013) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Westminster won game one, 10-8, and the Saints won the nightcap, 7-5.

With the split, the Saints are 10-6 overall and 3-3 in the PAC and the Titans are 8-9 overall and 1-4 in the PAC.

Westminster scored seven in the first, two in the second and one in the third and held Thomas More to four in the first and four in the fourth for the 10-8 victory.

Junior third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) led the Saints at the plate as he was two-for-three with a double, a run batted-in and a run scored and junior left fielder Jason Handley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was one-for-three with two RBI.

Senior pitcher Mike Hager (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) suffered the loss on the mound as he pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up seven runs on six hits.

In the nightcap, Thomas More scored five in the second and two in the fourth, while holding the Titans to one in the first, three in the second and one in the fourth for the 7-5 victory.

Sophomore pitcher Tim Baldrick (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) earned the win as he pitched five innings and gave up five runs on eight hits and struck out two, while senior pitcher David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) earned the save as he pitched two scoreless innings and didn't give up a hit and struck out two.

At the plate, the Saints were led by Handley, who was three-for-four with a RBI and a run scored. Freshman short stop Marcus Woelfel (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) was two-for-two with a run scored and Miller was two-for-three with a run scored.

Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (April, 3) when it travels to Danville, Kentucky to play Centre College. The single nine-inning non-conference game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
