TCNJ SWEEPS NJCU IN NJAC OPENER, 15-5 AND 3-1; KNIGHTS LEAVE BASES FULL IN GAME TWO NINTH INNING

EWING, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University led 5-3 after five and a half innings in game one before The College of New Jersey scored 12 runs over the sixth, seventh and eighth innings and claimed the opening game of a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader, 15-5, on March 30 at George Ackerman Park. In game two, NJCU had the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning but could not get the game-tying hit, and fell to the Lions, 3-1.
 
In the NJAC openers for both schools, TCNJ improved to 8-9 and 2-0 in the league. After winning eight of its previous 10 games prior to Friday, NJCU (9-8, 0-2 NJAC) has now lost three in a row.

***GAME 1: The College of New Jersey 15, New Jersey City 5***

TCNJ collected a season-high 19 hits, scoring five runs in the sixth and eighth innings, led by senior right fielder Michael Murphy (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island Tech) who had a brilliant offensive game with six RBIs. He reached base five times, batting 3-for-4 with two runs, two walks, and a three-run homer to left-center field.
