SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton baseball team picked up where it left off in Florida last week, winning its seventh straight game behind a strong start from senior lefty Bobby Della Polla (Havertown, Pa./St. Joseph's Preparatory) and timely hitting from junior Eric Pizzico (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) in a 3-1 over Marywood University at Pacer Fields on Monday afternoon.

Della Polla struck out eight in six shutout innings for his fourth win of the season and 13th of his career. He allowed just three hits and one walk while pushing his scoreless innings streak to 13.

The Royals (13-7) jumped ahead with a pair of runs in the second inning. Pizzico delivered a one-out RBI double, then came around to score on a two-out error.

The game stayed that way until the sixth when Scranton pushed across another run when Pizzico singled with two outs and junior third baseman Mike Trabulsi (Malverne, N.Y./Chaminade) followed with an RBI double down the left field line. The double extended Trabulsi's hitting streak to five games.

Marywood (3-10) got a run back in the eighth, but sophomore right-hander Josh Bayzick (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) earned his third save of the season by stranding runners at second and third in the bottom of the ninth.

Pizzico finished with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, Trabulsi had a hit and an RBI and freshman right fielder Ray Grapsy (Covington Township, Pa./North Pocono) had a single and scored a run in the victory.

Scranton returns to action on Wednesday, March 3, when it travels to Edwardsville, Pa. to take on Wilkes University at 4 p.m. at Artillery Park.
