NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – SUNY Oneonta (6-11, 1-0 SUNYAC) scored three runs in the top of the ninth, as the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team (6-12, 3-4 SUNYAC) dropped a 3-1 decision to the Red Dragons on Tuesday in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup and the Hawks' home opener at Loren Campbell Memorial Field.

The Hawks entered the ninth with a 1-0 lead, but the Red Dragons quickly found themselves with the bases loaded and nobody out. Designated hitter Dylan Stamile picked up the tying RBI with a walk before senior relief pitcher Chris Chismar (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) struck out the next batter for the first out of the inning. First baseman Dean Haussel followed with a single to left to give Oneonta its first lead of the game, and then shortstop Ivan Plata walked to bring another run in and leave Oneonta with a 3-1 advantage.

Chismar suffered the loss, tossing 2.1 innings in his first relief appearance of the season, yielding three runs (two earned) on three hits while striking out three. Oneonta reliever Jim Hegmann picked up the win after two scoreless innings in relief in which he allowed no hits and struck out four.

Tuesday's contest began as a pitcher's duel, with neither team scoring a run for the first five and a half innings. The Hawks broke the scoreless tie in the home half of the sixth when senior left fielder Anthony Repetto (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) doubled down the left field line to score senior center fielder Matt Carr (Westbury, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) from second base.

Junior starting pitcher Andrew Grann (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) did not earn a decision on Tuesday after tossing 6.2 scoreless innings. He allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out four.

Oneonta starter Alex Mastrianni did not pick up a decision either after throwing six innings and allowing one run. He scattered three hits across his six innings, while striking out three.

Carr and Repetto each went 2-for-3 in Tuesday's loss, with Carr scoring the only run and Repetto knocking him in. Junior shortstop Steven Morse (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) had the only other hit for the Hawks, going 1-for-4 on the afternoon.

Haussel went 2-for-5 for the Red Dragons with the game-winning RBI in the ninth inning. Center fielder Rob Peluso batted 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Plata picked up an RBI in his 1-for-4 effort.

The Hawks return to action this weekend with a three-game series with the Lakers of SUNY Oswego. First pitch for the Friday, April 5, nine-inning contest is slated for 3 p.m. from Loren Campbell Memorial Field. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
