Lynchburg Drops Tough Contest Tuesday to H-SC

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team fell behind 6-1 in the first inning, and could not recover, falling 8-3 to Hampden-Sydney College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Tuesday afternoon.

Hampden-Sydney took the early advantage as the first six Tigers to bat, and seven of the first eight, collected hits while plating six runs.

Lynchburg got one run back in the bottom of the first as Dustin Arrowood put a single into the left-center field gap to score Michael Kenah. The Tigers would plate two more runs in the third inning to take a commanding 8-1 lead.

The Hornets managed two runs in the bottom of the fifth when Wil Parsons doubled and Lincoln Evans singled with one out. A grounder by Kenah plated Parsons while forcing Evans at second. Brock Shiflett concluded the Hornet scoring when his single to right-center scored Kenah for an 8-3 H-SC lead.

Trevor Johnston kept it close out of the bullpen, pitching 6 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. The sophomore struck out three against zero walks while scattering nine hits.

Hunter Lewis pitched seven innings of three-run ball for Hampden-Sydney (14-13-1/7-5 ODAC) to get his first win of the season.

Lynchburg (16-12/6-6 ODAC) plays again Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. against Methodist University (14-17) on Fox Field.
