Schlereth throws second no-hitter in Fontbonne history

Fontbonne University senior pitcher Andrew Schlereth (St. Louis, MO/Affton) threw the second no hitter in program history last night helping the Griffins sweep a doubleheader from Greenville College. Fontbonne won the first game 5-4 in extra innings and on the strength of Schlereth's no-no, won the second 3-0. The Griffins improved to 6-12 overall and 2-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).

In the nightcap, Schlereth struckout three while allowing no hits and walking nobody to earn his first win of the season. Schlereth's only baserunners reached on an error and were hit by a pitch. The only other no-hitter in program history was thrown by David Willey on April 17, 2010 against Blackburn College.

Junior shortstop Rob Berger provided the offense for the Griffins as he went 2-4 with two RBI's. Senior rightfielder Sean Fischer was also 2-4 with one RBI.

In the first game, Fontbonne squandered an early 4-0 but recovered to win 5-4 in 11 innings. Sophomore Matt Wallis doubled home junior Andy Knipmeyer in the 11th inning for the winning run. Junior pitcher Dustin Graves earned the victory in relief tossing three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four.

The Griffins return to the diamond on Saturday hosting Blackburn College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.
