Thomas More Earns an 11-1 Win at Centre

(DANVILLE, Ky.) - The Thomas More College baseball team defeated in-state rival Centre College, 11-1, today (Wednesday, April 3, 2013) in a non-conference game at Gary Wright Field in Danville, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 11-6 overall and the Colonels fall to 10-14.

Thomas More scored one run in the first, one in the second, one in the fourth, six in the sixth, one in the eighth and one in the ninth, while holding Centre to a solo run in the sixth for the 11-1 victory.

Sophomore pitcher Tyler Jones (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) earned the win on the mound as he pitched six innings giving up one run on three hits, while striking out five. Freshman pitcher Zach Fardo (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart), freshman pitcher Chris Auer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) and freshman pitcher Kyle Fuller (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) each pitched one scoreless inning of relief work.

Senior short stop David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) led the Saints at the plate as he was two-for-two with a double, three runs batted-in and a run scored. Junior center fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-three with a three runs scored, while senior right fielder Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) had two RBI.

Thomas More returns to the field on Saturday (April 6) when it opens a three-game Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) series with Bethany College with a doubleheader. First pitch of the doubleheader is 1 p.m. at Bison Park in Bethany, West Virginia.
