The College at Brockport baseball team snapped a five game losing streak with a 4-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over No. 1 nationally ranked Cortland on Friday afternoon. Four players collected multi-hit games for the Golden Eagles, including a team-high three hits from Mike Gianni (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt).

A day after giving up an eighth-inning lead to Fredonia, Brockport scored three runs in the eighth against the Red Dragons. Cortland (17-6) took the early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning but Gianni tied the game up with an RBI single in the fifth. Strong pitching on both sides kept the game even until the eighth. A bases loaded walk gave Brockport a 2-1 lead and Brockport's leading run-producer Nick Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) knocked in two runs to clinch the victory over the Red Dragons, atop the latest D3baseball.com national rankings.

Gianni's three hits tie a career-high. The junior recorded three hits against Oneonta in last year's SUNYAC tournament. Bunce, Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit), and Zach Lander (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) all collected two hits on the day.

Travis Renwick (Middletown, NY/Chapel Field Christian) got the start on the mound for the Golden Eagles and allowed just one earned run on seven hits in six innings of work. The senior walked one batter and struck out three. Rob Stankiewicz (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) earned the win after pitching three innings, allowing just two hits. Stankiewicz improves to 2-0 on the year.

Bunce picked up his first hit of the day in the top of the second inning. After reaching third on a single from Lander and a sacrifice bunt from Dan Hurlimann (Rochester, NY/Hilton), Bunce attempted to score on a passed ball but was thrown out at the plate to keep the game scoreless.

Cortland took the initial 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth but the Golden Eagles responded in the next frame. Hurlimann singled to shortstop and stole second and later scored on Gianni's single up the middle to even the score.

Neither side managed to take a lead until the Golden Eagles came to the plate in the eighth inning. Gianni opened up the inning with a single and Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) were both hit by pitches in the next two at-bats. Wilson then gave Brockport the 2-1 lead with a bases loaded walk. Bunce then singled through the left side for two insurance runs for Brockport

Stankiewicz pitched a perfect ninth inning to secure the win, snapping a four-game losing streak to the Red Dragons.

The two teams will complete the three-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm.
