The University of Scranton baseball team was unable to carry the momentum of Saturday's doubleheader sweep into Sunday and suffered a 10-5 loss to Susquehanna University in the final game of their Landmark Conference series at Connell Park.

The Royals (15-10, 5-3 Landmark) had leads of 3-0, 4-1 and 5-4, but could not hang on to complete the series sweep. Susquehanna (11-15, 5-4 Landmark) scored three times in the eighth to take a 7-5 lead and added three insurance runs in the ninth.

Scranton jumped ahead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by sophomore first baseman Ross Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights/Blair Academy, N.J.). The Royals added two more in the third on an error and an RBI single by junior catcher Eddie Ravert (Havertown, Pa./Malvern Preparatory).

Susquehanna answered with a three-run homer in the fourth by senior first baseman Nick Ferlise (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North). Ferlise finished with two hits, four RBIs and scored twice.

Scranton went back ahead in the bottom half of the inning when junior center fielder Michael Gaeta (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) doubled home Danzig with two outs. The Crusaders answered with a run in the fifth to knot the score at 4 before Scranton scored in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by senior shortstop Tim LeCompte (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic).

The score stayed that way until the top of the eighth when Susquehanna got to the Scranton bullpen for three runs. Freshman catcher Rob Marcickiewicz (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) had the big blow, a two-run double.

For the Royals, Gaeta finished with four hits, including two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Danzig had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run and Ravert finished with two hits.

Senior lefty Corey Gorman (Laflin, Pa./Coughlin) worked the first seven innings, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out 10.

Scranton is back in action on Tuesday, April 9, when it travels to Mahwah, N.J. to take on Ramapo College at 3:30 p.m.
