ADRIAN, Mich. – Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland is famous for saying momentum in baseball is up to the pitchers. Albion College received a quality start from Craig Conway in a 2-0 loss to Adrian College in the first game of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader at Nicolay Field, but five pitchers combined to issue 10 walks and hit seven batters in a 17-2 loss in the nightcap.

The losses sent Albion to 7-5 in league play and behind Adrian in the standings. Albion plays host to Spring Arbor University for a non-league game Wednesday and to Olivet College Saturday for the start of a four-game series of league games.

Conway, a first-year student-athlete from Mancelona, allowed six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six. One of the walks – issued to Sam Fischer in the third – came around to score. Adrian also tacked on an insurance run in the sixth as Jamey Sackett started the inning with a single and he scored on a two-out single by Anthony Sergi.

Albion advanced a runner to third in the second inning and a runner to second in the third inning but could not produce the clutch hit.

Davin Montgomery and Eric Shimmel produced RBI singles for Albion in the first inning of game two. The Britons' lead was short lived, however, as Adrian scored four times in its half of the first as two Albion pitchers combined to hit four batters and issue three walks. Adrian added six runs in the second inning and six more in the third inning.

Brendan Diamond finished game two with three singles for Albion. Montgomery added a pair of singles.
