No. 7-ranked St. Thomas ran its home baseball win streak to 30 with Sunday's 7-0, 11-2 sweep of St. Mary's in MIAC play at Koch Diamond.
The Tommies (16-4 overall, 4-0 MIAC), who had only one error on the day, have won 11 of their last 12 games. They have allowed just six runs in four MIAC games, and hold a one-game lead early in the conference race over 3-1 Bethel and 2-0 Concordia-Moorhead.
Sophomore RHP Colin Wendinger threw a six-hit shutout in game one, and freshman Eric Veglahn pitched into the fifth inning and struck out nine in game two. Both were making their first career MIAC starts.
Wendinger (2-1) struck out five and walked one.
Veglahn (2-0) walked two and allowed a two-run single to start the game as UST fell behind 2-0 in the last of the first inning. But he struck out eight of the next nine batters. He now has 19 strikeouts in 13 innings this season.
Mark Dominik came on with two on in the fifth with an 8-2 lead and got the next four outs.
Catcher J.D. Dorgan and CF Ben Podobinski each went 4-for-8 on the day, and Dorgan drove in four runs, two on a bases-loaded double that helped break open the first game. Dorgan also picked off a runner at first base in game one to end a bases-loaded threat.
In five at-bats on the day, Dylan Thomas had a two-run double and a triple and walked twice. Jack Hogan had a three-run double in game two and also had a single and three walks on the day.
