With a doubleheader split against the Ozarks Eagles on Saturday, the Louisiana College Wildcats have clinched a spot in the 2013 ASC Tournament, the eighth in the last nine years for Mike Byrnes' club.
The Eagles got on the board first in game one, as Taylor Parker hit an RBI single to right field to score Mitchell Powers.
LC would tie the game 1-1 in the fourth inning on a Cary Myers squeeze bunt that scored Mark Riendeau. Myers would then put the Wildcats ahead in the sixth inning an RBI single, scoring Riendeau again. Taylor Beavers would add another RBI to make it 3-1 after six innings.
The Wildcats then exploded in the top of the seventh inning, sending 14 batters to the plate, as they plated nine runs on seven hits, highlighted by a bases clearing double by Beavers off of Ozarks reliever Alex Rodriguez.
Those 12 runs were more than enough for LC starting pitcher Seth Webster, who was outstanding yet again, tossing his eighth consecutive complete game to earn the win. Webster gave up only one earned run and did not walk a batter to pick up the win, moving his record to 8-2 on the season.
The Wildcats would find themselves down in a 4-0 hole in game two, as the Eagles got one run in the first and added three runs on three hits and an LC error in the fifth to take the four run lead.
LC would fight back however, as Kade Van Norman added an RBI single to score Cole Bagbey in the sixth to make it 4-1. Beavers ripped another RBI single in the seventh, and was followed by a Colt Ducote walk with the bases loaded and a Cole Bagbey sacrifice fly to tie the game 4-4.
The Eagles had had an immediate answer in their half of the seventh inning, as Ozarks first baseman Tony Morales drove an RBI double to right field to score Freddy prince for the eventual game-winning run.
The doubleheader split brought LC's record to 20-15 overall, 10-5 in ASC play. With Texas-Tyler's sweep of LeTourneau, the Wildcats remain alone in second place in the ASC East standings. The Wildcats can wrap up a second place finish in the division with a single victory over Texas-Tyler in next weekend's three-game series. The Wildcats would have to sweep the Patriots in order to claim their first ever ASC Eastern Division title.
