STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Kennedy Tavarez went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot with a double and one stolen base and speedster Jaquan Murphy registered his second triple of the season but a balanced College of Staten Island (18-9) club downed the City College of New York, 10-3, on Saturday afternoon at the newly minted Tomas Morales Field.

CSI held a pregame ceremony for previous president of the college, Tomas Morales, who is now the president at California State University of San Bernandino.

Tavarez's on-base percentage continued to improve as the junior infielder is now reaching base at a .389 clip. He also leads the club with nine stolen bases after successfully swiping a bag this afternoon. Murphy's three-bagger marked the second consecutive game that the outfielder records a triple while right fielder Angel Zapata made his Beaver debut by going 1-for-4 at the dish.

Andrew Mulvey (1-6) was tagged with the loss after allowing 10 runs – seven earned – and striking out five in 5.2 innings. Anthony Colon came in relief and threw 2.1 scoreless innings. John Baggs (2-0) improved to 2-0 on the year after allowing 7.0 innings, striking out seven and allowing three runs – two earned.

The Dolphins struck first, putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning with help by CCNY's two errors.

Chipping away, City College scored one run in the top of the second frame after Murphy tripled and Tavarez ripped a single to center field to plate the left fielder to cut its deficit to 3-1.

With one out in the fourth, Zapata singled up the middle and came around to score on Yoribaldis Olivo's RBI double.

With a no-quit attitude, CCNY tied the game at 3-3 after adding one run in the fifth after Tavarez singled and was plated after two CSI errors.]

However CSI scored seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings to blow the game open and take the nonconference contest, 10-3.
